The offers keep coming in for Rivals100 defensive back Marcus Lewis. On a day when the stand out from Washington (D.C.) Gonzaga did not have school because of snow, Notre Dame made his day off just a little better.
"My former teammate Devin Butler goes there and he says it's a great place to go to academically and that the coaching staff is great," the 6-foot-1, 180-pound Lewis said. "I talked to coach (Kerry) Cooks and we had a really good conversation. He wants me to get up there for a visit this spring. I'm definitely going to try to do that. He sees me being able to come in and make an impact early. He said he watched the top 50 cornerbacks in my class and he thinks I'm in the top five."
Having a former teammate at Notre Dame has helped Lewis learn a lot about the program.
"Devin and I are pretty close," he said. "We try to talk once or twice a week. He says he really likes the coaching staff. He says there is strong brotherhood there. There are guys from all over the country there and they really bond together. It's also a great school to graduate from. Devin says that he is going to have graduated from Gonzaga and will also graduate from Notre Dame so it really can't get much better. The football will take care of itself. Notre Dame is on TV every weekend so everyone will see you play."
About 20 schools have offered Lewis but it's hard for him to overlook an offer from the Fighting Irish.
"Notre Dame definitely sticks out without even thinking about football," Lewis said. "I know so many people that attend Notre Dame. Some of my teachers even went there. It's a great school academically, so if football doesn't work out that degree will really help me out."
Lewis is a former Virginia Tech commit but is taking a more methodical approach this time around.
"I wouldn't say I have any real standouts right now," he said. "Once I take some visits I'll probably have a top ten in May or June. I'm still planning on going to Kentucky this weekend and I still want to visit Florida."
Some of Lewis' other offers include Clemson, Florida State, Ohio State, Michigan State and many others.
