Irish in the thick of it for Rose
The cousin of linebacker Maurice Crum, Orlando (Fla.) Cypress Creek athlete Marcell Rose has ties to the Notre Dame program. Therefore, it is no surprise that the Fighting Irish are in the thick of things in the early stages of Rose's recruitment.
The 5-foot-9, 180-pound Rose, who doesn't have any written scholarship offers as of yet, talked about the schools he is interested in during an interview at Rivals.com Junior Day on Saturday at Clearwater (Fla.) Countryside High.
"I like Florida, Notre Dame, Kentucky, Tennessee and South Carolina," he said. "I like Notre Dame. Plus, I got a cousin Maurice Crum who plays there."
So far, Rose has taken three unofficial visits.
"I went to Miami, Notre Dame and Florida already," Rose said. "Those are places I have already been. I liked Florida and Notre Dame the best out of those three."
Rose will go to South Carolina's Junior Day on March 3.
There are a number of ways the quick athlete can be used in college.
"Position-wise, I will probably play cornerback or receiver because of my speed and quickness," Rose said. "When you see me play, you see a lot of cutting and a lot of fast motion."
Rose had more than 1,100 total yards during his junior season (730 rushing, 475 receiving) and had 32 tackles and two interceptions on defense.
