Irish commit in second-round of playoffs

Martin Frierson led Irmo (S.C.) in receptions this year, and is now leading his teammates into the second round of the playoffs. He committed to Notre Dame this summer, but he says that some schools still call him, and two have given him scholarship offers.
“I committed to Notre Dame, and I still talk to them every week,” he said. “I really like them, and I just got back from an unofficial visit there this weekend. It was a great trip, and they have so much pride and tradition there. I really loved it.

“I still get calls from Georgia Tech, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Maryland and Auburn. I have offers from Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt, and I think I may take some visits there. I am definitely taking an official visit to Notre Dame, on December 3, and I’ll set up the trips to Georgia Tech and Vanderbilt in the next week or two.”
While he’s still talking to some other schools, Frierson said that he’s confident in his decision and that his talking to other schools in no way weakens his commitment.
“I’m still listening to other schools, but unless something happens I’m going to Notre Dame,” Frierson said.
With a second round playoff game against Conway on tap this week, Frierson will try to tap into the skills that got him 25 catches, 500 yards and five touchdowns during the regular season.
“I’m physical, fast, aggressive, smart and aware,” he said. “I can also jump as well as anybody. I recorded a 41-inch vertical leap at Miami, and now I just want to get bigger to take it to the next level.”
Frierson is rated as the No. 19 overall prospect in South Carolina.
