Iowa to host Mabin this month

Fort Lauderdale (Fla.) Calvary Christian Academy wide receiver Greg Mabin was surprised by a recent phone call from the Iowa Hawkeyes. The interest from the Big Ten program was fast and furious after they received film of the 6-foot-2, 190-pound wide receiver in action.
"They just started talking to me recently," Mabin said. "They got my film through (Quarterbacks) Coach (Ken) Mastrole. I had gone to a couple of his workouts with my quarterback over the summer and he was close with Jake Rudock, the quarterback that is now there (at Iowa) who was at St. Thomas Aquinas last year, and I guess through that contact they got Iowa my film and I guess they liked what they saw. They contacted me that night and said they wanted to get me out there and that they wanted to offer me once I got there."

"It was definitely surprising," Mabin said of the interest. "I was not expecting it because I had never had any previous contact with them. It was a good shock."
Now, the South Florida prospect is planning to take an official visit to learn more about Kirk Ferentz program.
"I am visiting Iowa for their game against Northwestern, it will be an official," Mabin said.
With an offer from the Hawkeyes expected upon his arrival on campus for his visit, what is the likelihood he immediately commits?
"I am probably not going to commit right away because I want to wait until after football season," Mabin said. "I just want to see if anything else comes my way. I am kind of playing it by ear."
Mabin, who holds offers from Jacksonville State and Tulane, is also hearing from Middle Tennessee, Vanderbilt, and Wisconsin regularly. He said Wisconsin dropped into his practice on Monday. At this time he has no other official visits set up but is hoping to visit Georgia and Wisconsin.
On the season, Mabin has 22 receptions for 441 yards and eight touchdowns. As a junior, Mabin had 58 receptions for 1,094 yards and 12 touchdowns.
