Iowa state champ focuses on recruiting

Marion, Iowa offensive tackle prospect Andy Kuempel (6-foot-7, 250 pounds) can be excused for not spending as much time these days in the weight room preparing for his senior season, since Kuempel and Linn Mar high school just won the Iowa Class 4A state basketball state championship last weekend.
“It was a trip,” Andy Kuempel said. “We won the state title in basketball over the weekend. We had a big reception in town after winning the state title, and it still hasn't totally sunk in just yet that were the state champs. Today I definitely got back in the weight room and I'm now focused on getting ready for football."

Several college football programs have taken notice of this dual-sport athlete. "I'm starting to get a lot of mail. Kansas State, Kansas, Iowa, Iowa State and several Ivy League schools are sending me mail on a regular basis. I'm also hearing from several smaller schools for basketball, but if I have a choice I'm definitely a football player, no question."
Kuempel, who visited junior days at Iowa State and Northern Iowa earlier this year, is also planning on taking advantage of his spring break next week. "I'm going to a Junior Day at Iowa later this spring, and I've also been invited to several spring practices, and I'm planning on checking out both Iowa and Iowa State."
Does Andy Kuempel have his summer camp plans set? "I'm going to the Nike Training Camp in Iowa City, Iowa in May. I'm also planning on going to several one-day camps. Right now I;m planning on going to Iowa, Iowa State, Kansas and Kansas State this summer."
