Iowa QB staying home

Blairsburg (Iowa) Northeast Hamilton quarterback Nate Mechaelsen decided to take his first offer and stay near home.
"They were the first to offer me a scholarship," Mechaelsen said. "The coaching staff and the way they treated me made me realize that was the place."

The 6-foot-2, 190-pounder grew up an Iowa Hawekeye fan, but decided Ames was the place to spend his college years.
"I got to see the campus, the town and everything up there," Mechaelsen said. "It was fun to be there. And now I'll be up there for four more years."
As a junior, Mechaelsen threw for 925 yards and 16 scores while hitting on 56 percent of his passes.
Mechaelsen also had received interest from Iowa, Kansas and Wisconsin.
