When Detroit Country Day quarterback Tyler Wiegers de-committed from Rutgers last month, he did so not knowing where he would land. Less than six weeks later the four-star has committed to the Iowa Hawkeyes.

"It happened last night, but I had to wait until after all my tests and quizzes today to break it," Wiegers said. "I talked to Coach [Phil] Parker, Coach [Greg] Davis and Coach [Kirk] Ferentz and they were all really excited. They're excited to get me out there, get working and they think I can definitely become a great leader for the school."
Wiegers made an official visit to Iowa City the weekend after de-committing from Rutgers. He also took a trip to Penn and had strongly considered them before making the decision this week to be a Hawkeye.
"For me, I felt the most comfortable there as I had at any other school," Wiegers said. "Then, the chance to play Big Ten football is huge. After talking to the coaches, the players and different academic people, I feel I can accomplish a lot academically there and come out with a great degree and a great shot at med school."
With his decision behind him, Wieger's focus will soon toward preparing to ensure he is ready to go when he arrives in Iowa City next summer.
"Basically, you have to get your body in the best shape it has ever been in because obviously they are going to work you really hard in college," Wiegers said. "Then, getting the mental part of the game down before I go. Coach Davis had talked to me about coming out for a couple days and he can teach me some of the offense later as we get towards the summer."
In the short term, though, Wiegers plans to enjoy the relief of having his recruiting process over with.
"It is nice to finally get it off my shoulders," he said. "It's been a long process and it's always been a dream to play Big Ten football. A lot of hard work goes in, and [now] it pays off. It feels really, really good and I'm excited for the future."
The 6-foot-4, 213-pound Wiegers is ranked as the No. 13 pro-style quarterback in the country. He is the second four-star commitment for Iowa in the 2014 class.
