Iowa All Stater drawing recruiting interest

Decorah, (Iowa) kicking prospectDJ Mello (5-foot-10, 160) was named as a Class 3A All State performer this past season, and the colleges have started to take notice of Mello's abilities.

"My recruiting has really started to pick up," Mello said. "I've been getting several calls from schools and Wyoming is scheduled to make a home visit very soon."

Mello, who converted 48 of 50 PAT's and made 9-15 field goals with a long of 52 yards in 2004, talked about his latest college suitors.

"I've gotten calls from Wyoming, Iowa State and Idaho as well as calls from several smaller schools. I'm planning to make an official visit to Wyoming in January. Both Iowa State and Idaho are also very interested, and Iowa State said I was one of two kickers they are recruiting. Idaho also is talking about me making a visit soon."

"I made an unofficial visit to Iowa State during the season, and I really enjoyed the school as well as the program. It's pretty close to home which is good. I'm basically just looking to keep kicking at the next level."
