HOUSTON, Tex. – One look at Brant Banks walking towards a football field is enough to capture the imagination of football coaches everywhere, and that curiosity is starting to take the form of some big offers.

Banks has been working camps and seven-on-seven tournaments as a tight end, but it seems a forgone conclusion that his future is lining up with his hand in the dirt as an offensive or defensive lineman. At 6-8, 250-pounds, with the build and athleticism of a power forward – which he also has spent a fair amount of time playing – projections for his future vary amongst the teams that have offered him.

“I still have a lot of work to do,” he said. “It doesn’t matter what level you watch, in college those kids are huge. So I’ve got to put on some weight, work on my footwork and just get stronger.”

Banks’ most recent offer came from Nebraska on March 5, and he also holds offers from Baylor and UTSA. He said Boston College, Houston and TCU have also recently entered the picture as well, of which the Horned Frogs have held a bit of a personal connection to him.

“Now, as I get older and I’m watching more football, I like all the schools,” he said. “As I was growing up, I had a lot of friends go to TCU. I haven’t actually gone up there, but I’ve just been told it’s beautiful.”

IN HIS WORDS

On his Nebraska offer

“Honestly, they only had started following me like the day before on Twitter and the coach just told me to call him one night,” he said. “We had a conversation and he just told me that he likes the way I play but they were trying to figure out if they like more on defense or offense. He just ended the conversation saying that he was also giving me a scholarship offer to Nebraska.”

“That was really huge. It was out of the blue and I just wasn’t expecting it,” he said. “I was really excited about it and the next day I called Coach (Scott) Frost and had a good conversation with him. I think they like me more at defensive end, but that’s OK I love both positions.”

At which position he feels his potential is greatest

“That [offer] really opened my eyes to what I could do,” he said. “I feel like I can play any position that the coach wants me to as long as they coach me well – which I’m sure they will – I’m sure they’ll make me the best player that I can be.”

RIVALS REACTION

The Huskers seem to have made the biggest immediate impression with Banks, and he said. That he would like make it up to Lincoln soon, even though he’s optimistic more offers are to come. He also mentioned that because of that, he’s not in a big hurry to make any major decisions in his recruitment.

“I’m sure I am going to head up Nebraska soon,” he said. “Just to meet the coaches, see the campus and take a look around because I just want to go see it – it looks pretty cool up there.”
