Interest strong for Cheek

Waiting for offer No. 1 hasn't been easy for junior cornerback Trevellous Cheek of Lawrenceville (Ga.) Archer, but he is keeping a positive outlook.
"It has been kind of hard, but I know it's coming," Cheek said. "I know it's close. I'm just waiting. I know it's going to happen pretty soon."

Who could be first to pull the trigger?
"Maybe Cal and Arkansas," Cheek said. "They're showing me a lot of attention. I think they're about to offer. We've talked a lot. They've talked about how they can use me in their programs. Their coaches really like talking to me."
The interest is mutual, Cheek said.
"I've watched [Cal defensive backs coach Ashley] Ambrose's defensive backs and I like his whole style of DBs," Cheek said. "They're all around. They're good at everything. They can tackle and they can cover. At Arkansas, I like the speed the DBs play at. They're real fast. They attack and swarm to the ball real quick."
According to the 5-feet-10, 175-pound Cheek, Clemson, Kentucky, Missouri, Mississippi, Wisconsin also Georgia Southern also are showing interest.
"I've been to Georgia Southern and I'm supposed to go to Kentucky this Saturday for junior day," Cheek said. "
A three-year starter, Cheek said he did not have an interception last season. But, he added, that was mainly because quarterbacks rarely tested him.
"I had 12 passes thrown to my side and I had nine deflections," he said. "I did pretty good. I feel like I can tackle. I can stop receivers right at the spot. I feel like I can cover pretty well. Mostly, though, I think I'm more physical than anything."
