Interest picks up for Philly QB

Interest is picking up for Philadelphia (Pa.) West Catholic quarterback Curtis Drake. The 6-foot-0, 175-pounder is getting looks from the ACC, Big East and Big Ten.
"The schools that have shown the most interest are Penn State, Maryland, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Minnesota, Wisconsin and Michigan State," he said. "I actually haven't been on any visits yet, but I am going this Saturday to Maryland."

Is there an early leader for Drake?
"I really like Georgia Tech," he said. "I've been trying to get in contact with them. I always like them as a football team. I've been drawn to school that are known for dual-threat quarterback and they are one of those."
While Georgia Tech leads, Drake is looking around. He discussed what he wants in a college.
"In general, I'm planning to go to school for architecture. I'll look to see who has a good program in that," he stated. "I also want a big school with a lot of people. I want a big environment, but good academics come first. Location doesn't really matter, in fact I kind of want to leave and go somewhere warm."
Drake plans to attend the Baltimore Nike Combine this spring.
The Keystone prospect believes most schools are looking at him as a quarterback.
"No one has talked to me about changing my position," he said. "Last year I threw for 1,350-yards and 20 touchdowns to five interceptions. I also rushed for 600-yards and 11 touchdowns as we won the Catholic league championship again.
"I definitely saw a big improvement from my sophomore year. I didn't get rattled as easily. I was tough in the pocket and had confidence in myself. I know I always have to improve on throwing the ball. Running comes natural, but throwing the ball is what separates quarterbacks from each other. I still want to work on my mechanics too."
