Edwards.
A 5-foot-11, 180-pound cornerback, Edwards has received
as much interest for his impressive academic resume as his considerable football
skils.
On the field, he's coming off a junior season which saw
him record 60 tackles, six interceptions and 12 pass break-ups. Off the field,
he's maintaining a 3.6 GPA, has scored a 1010 on his first SAT attempt and has
already garnered scholarship offers from the likes of Vanderbilt, Stanford and
Duke.
"Academics are going to be the main factor in my
decision," he said. "It's very imprortant to me. In addition to what kind of
football program they have, I'm going to be looking at the academic programs,
the size of the classes, the student-teacher ratio, all that stuff, so you're
not just a statistic."
May was a busy time for Edwards, who was contact by 30 different schools.
"Florida, East Carolina and Georgia have shown a whole lot of interest of
late," he said. "They're on my list of favorites now with Vanderbilt, Stanford,
Duke, Pitt and Virginia."
Edwards says he's been working extremely hard in the offseason, putting on
muscle and increasing all of his key figures in the weight room. He's put on
about 10 pounds while maintaining his 4.4 speed. He's increased his bench max to
250 and his squat to 400. His vertical jump was measured at 36 inches during the
Nike Camp at Athens.
