Interest picking up for Urtz

Mark Urtz is starting to hear from some schools and the Upland (Calif.) Ontario Christian athlete is feeling his way through the recruiting process as the spring and summer camp circuit gets closer.
Urtz, a 6-foot-1, 202-pound prospect, said he's been receiving mail mainly from Notre Dame, Penn State, Stanford, South Carolina and Missouri. Others are showing interest as well but Urtz said things have been relatively slow in recent weeks. No offers have arrived at this point.

The biggest bit of news is that Urtz took an unofficial visit to Notre Dame and thoroughly enjoyed his time. His father is a Notre Dame alum and that could play an influence in Urtz's decision-making process if the Irish continue to recruit him.
"I really liked it," Urtz said of Notre Dame. "My dad is an alum from there so I've been there before but going out as a recruit is a different experience. I really like the campus and the facilities and it's a great coaching staff there.
"I want to go to a school that has good academics with good tradition and a good reputation like Notre Dame or Stanford or stay in Southern California if I can."
Urtz has started to think about the upcoming camp circuit. Stanford has asked for his transcripts so there is a chance he could visit the Cardinal at some point.
The Upland Christian standout is also thinking about camps at UCLA and San Diego State this summer. There is also a good chance that Urtz will visit Notre Dame again for camp.
Mainly a wide receiver in his junior season where he finished with 25 catches for 315 yards and three touchdowns, Urtz could also have a future in the secondary.
