Interest picking up for Lucas

Duke, Buffalo and Villanova are the three schools that have offered scholarships to Medford (N.J.) Shawnee linebacker Dillon Lucas, and the 6-foot-2, 204-pound Garden State prospect is hoping for more.
Lately Lucas has noticed interest is picking up as the football season approaches.

"Recently there hasn't been anything out of the ordinary but I've been getting a lot more e-mails," he said.
"Coach Jim Knowles from Duke actually e-mailed me twice on Friday just asking how I'm doing. He wanted to let me know about some updates at Duke and how they're doing. We're in contact more now than we were at the beginning of the summer. I think he's trying to reach out a little more now.
"I definitely think Duke is very high on my list. I love talking to coach (David) Cutcliffe and I loved talking to a lot of their players when I went down there. They're excited about this upcoming year."
Lucas also attended a camp at North Carolina when he was in the area back in June.
"The main thing is a lot of schools would like to see the first three games of my senior season before they decide whether they'll offer or not," he explained.
"Right now it looks like the earliest I'll make my decision is mid-season, but the way it's looking now I'll probably wait util after my season."
Lucas went on to say that he has been receiving more attention from Penn State now than he was in the past. That could have a dramatic impact on the process.
"My favorite two right now are Penn State and Duke," he said. "Penn State is definitely at the top of my list. They haven't offered but they've said they're just waiting to see how I do at the start of my season. Then I'd say Duke is right behind them.
"This fall I'm going to definitely try to go to a Penn State game. I may go to Pittsburgh because I've been talking to them quite a lot lately, and then I'll probably go to a game at West Virginia. Maybe I'll go to a game at Temple when they play Villanova."
Last fall Lucas recorded 172 tackles, three sacks and an interception.
