Interest picking up for Eugene

Metairie (La.) Rummel safety Dwayne Eugene stands tall in the defensive backfield at 6-foot-2 and 207 pounds. His presence looms large for opposing offenses and college coaches have taken notice.
"It's going really well. I'm getting a lot of letters. A few coaches called," Eugene said. I get a lot of letters from LSU, Northwestern State, Nebraska, Miami, Oregon, and schools like that."

Growing up, Eugene also played receiver, but he has adjusted very well to life on the defensive side of the ball.
"Originally I came up on the offensive side but I transferred to defense and I'm liking it," Eugene said. "It doesn't matter as long as I'm playing."
Eugene also had a team he enjoyed following more than any other as a young kid.
"My favorite school was Miami, I liked the U," Eugene said. "Just the players who went there, the majority of them were my favorite players."
As he approaches the recruiting process, his thinking has changed though. Instead of Miami at the top, it is another program that has his attention right now.
"I like LSU right now," Eugene said. "First it's home, I like that they always have a winning season, and I like coach Les Miles."
