Indianapolis CB seeks offer

Rodney Ewing feels like things have reached a launching point.
The cornerback from Indianapolis has yet to land a scholarship offer but left the NIKE Football Training Camp at Ohio State last weekend confident about his showing and comfortable with the idea of proving himself in front of college coaches.

Over the next few weeks Ewing will hit some camps to build on his performance and perhaps impress programs enough to build a list of options.
"I just wanna show them my competitiveness," Ewing said. "I wanna show them I can compete with the best in the nation and just go out and show them how my IQ is at the position and how much I love the game. The only thing you can do is go out there and compete. You can't make a coach really want you unless you go out and compete to the best of your ability."
Some of the programs showing interest in Ewing include Ball State, Illinois, Indiana, Northern Illinois, Temple, Toledo and Western Illinois.
Ball State might be the closest to offer but camp stops at this point are set to include Illinois, Indiana and Western Illinois. The Illinois coaching staff has probably been in the most consistent contact but at this point Ewing wants to be open minded about any possible destination.
"I wanna go to a school that's gonna offer the best benefits when I graduate," Ewing said. "The NFL's not always guaranteed for everybody. My No. 1 goal is to go in and work on my degree in case the NFL doesn't work out so I have something to fall back on. The No. 2 thing is I wanna get a chance to go to a school where I can get out as a true freshman. I've always been a competitor to wanna go out and be the best. Whatever school gives me the opportunity to come out as a freshman and get some experience, that would be great.
"The third thing is I've always wanted to go to a big college that you see on TV. My family members have always gone to a big school. I have a lot of family that went to IU and graduated."
What Ewing hopes to prove in the coming weeks is that he brings more than a competitive edge.
As a junior at Perry Meridian High School the 5-foot-11, 170-pound prospect had 65 tackles, 11 pass breakups and one interception.
"Our conference doesn't really throw a whole bunch so the chances I get I try to get my hands on the ball as much as possible," Ewing said. "With them not throwing as much in our conference I try to be aggressive in the run game to get my stats up and not only that, to show college I'm an aggressive corner."
