"It's going to come down to South Carolina or N.C. State for Mario," Knotts said.
Running back Roderick Chisholm transferred into the Independence program from West Charlotte.
"Nobody has offered him early, but everybody has called me wanting to know if he was here," Knotts said. "He's here, he's already enrolled and is lifting weights. We are fixing to go do some speed training."
Independence is one of the top high school programs in the state of North Carolina. During recent years, it has produced national title-winning quarterback Chris Leak of Florida, receiver Mohamed Massaquoi and quarterback Joe Cox of Georgia, receiver Hakeem Nicks of North Carolina and Class of 2007 four-star receiver Jason Barnes, who signed with South Carolina.
