In-state schools looking at Yancey

Richmond (Va.) Hermitage wide receiver Griff Yancey showed impressive skills at the Virginia Tech Nike Camp a few weekends ago.
Recently the 6-foot-0, 185-pounder has also received visits from both Virginia and Virginia Tech to Hermitage.

"Virginia asked how I was doing and how the Nike Camp went and how they were interested in me," he said. "Virginia Tech said basically the same thing, along with the fact that they are only signing one receiver this year at Tech and they are still thinking it through. It was good to know I was in the mix at both Virginia and Virginia Tech though."
Besides visits, Yancey is also getting a lot of handwritten letters from coaches including ones from Duke, Maryland, Virginia, Virginia Tech and Northwestern. Of those he said that Virginia's really stuck out.
"Basically they all say the same thing, but Virginia sends me one like every week and they really keep in touch."
Next up for Yancey is a trip to the MSL combine at Georgia Tech on May 21st.
"I'm probably going to work on dropping my 40 time down and get my vertical up and more bench presses, probably up to 15 reps."
Of course, the wide receiver prospect would love to hear from some of the big schools still too.
"I'd like to hear from Miami, Southern Cal and Oklahoma," he said. "They all have solid football programs and that's really why I'm interested in them."
During the offseason, Yancey is running track in preparation to impress next year.
"I'm working on my speed and the track season is going really well," he said. "It's helping a lot with my football. It keeps me conditioned and also helps with my form for running. I'm hoping the team can win the district, region and state and I'd personally like to try to get up to 1,000 yards receiving."
This summer Yancey plans to attend camps at Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland and North Carolina State.
Yancey was named first team all-district, first team all-region, first team all-metro and second team all-state as he caught 35 receptions for 845 yards and 13 touchdowns.
