An early stand out in the state of Indiana’s 2019 class is Fort Wayne wide receiver Craig Young, who has been spending quite a bit of time in South Bend during the early stages of his recruitment. Young was back at Notre Dame this past weekend to attend the Fighting Irish’s home contest against Georgia.
THE LATEST
Young made his first recruiting visit to South Bend in June for Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion Camp, where he worked with wide receivers coach Del Alexander. They have not yet offered him a scholarship, but Indiana, Iowa State, Toledo and Wisconsin have come through with early offers. Additionally, Young is hearing from Penn State and Cincinnati. He is looking to schedule visiting later this season with Indiana, Penn State and Cincinnati. The visit this past weekend furthered Young’s interest in Notre Dame even though he does not yet hold an offer from the Irish.
IN HIS WORDS
“Notre Dame was pretty fun and a good experience. I really like Notre Dame, but haven’t really talked with Notre Dame about where they are with me. I am just being patient and if the scholarship comes, it comes. I’ve just been going to the games and getting a feel for the program. That offer would probably be big because everyone in my family is Notre Dame fans.”
RIVALS’ REACTION
Young is certainly aware of the Fort Wayne-Notre Dame connection that has seen Fort Wayne natives like Jaylon Smith and Drue Tranquill have success. It is still early in the 2019 class recruiting and Young does not have his early season film out yet. We will see how the interest in the 6-foot-5, 200-pound wideout evolves once junior film does start to trickle out because undoubtedly teams want to make sure he is showing the suddenness to stay on the outside in college, or whether he may need to move into a tight end role. Among the schools that have already offered, it sounds like Indiana is the one he knows best at this stage. He has already had several conversations with the Hoosier’s Tom Allen and is impressed with the first year head coach.
