Coeur d' Alene (Idaho) Lake City offensive tackle Carson York has been working hard all year long to prove people wrong. Just because he's from Idaho – a state that is hardly known for producing high-quality football prospects – he has been overlooked by many national observers.
However, he is a member of the Rivals100 and he has accepted a spot to play in the Offense-Defense All-American Game, which will be played Jan. 4 in Fort Lauderdale, Fla. Rivals.com is the official selection partner for the all-star game, which will be carried live on ESPNU.
"Since I'm from Idaho, I never thought I'd get a great opportunity like this," York said. "I was really excited about the first college offer I got. Then more came in and more came in after that. To me, playing in a game like this with a group like Rivals.com is like the icing on the cake. It's kind of amazing."
York is excited about getting away from Idaho in the winter to head to the sunny coast of Florida.
"It'll be nice to escape the blizzard," York said with a laugh. "I've been to Orlando before, so I'm really looking forward to heading to Fort Lauderdale and Miami. It'll be fun to be where the weather is always perfect."
But this won't be a vacation for York. He said he's heading to the All-American Bowl with one thing in mind – to see how he stacks up against the best players in the nation.
"It'll give me an idea of how I match up with other good players," he said. "I'm excited about just playing against high-quality talent. It'll be a good challenge to see how I do against other players."
York is the second Oregon commitment that has been officially announced as being in the game, but he won't be the last. Westlake Village (Calif.) Oaks Christian teammates and Oregon pledges Anthony Gildon – who has already been officially announced - and Casey Matthews will also be in Florida for the game.
"That's really going to be awesome," York said. "I think it's a good thing because we can hang out together and build a relationship. That way we'll all know each other when we get up to Oregon."
Others announced today:
Brandon Paul | Anthony Jacobs | Keenan Robinson | Golden Tate
