Huskies land punter

The Washington Huskies landed an outstanding punter/kicker this weekend when Jared Ballman (5-11, 170) from El Cajon (Calif.) Grossmont College committed to the Dawgs on Sunday.
"Jared has committed to Washington," kicking Guru Chris Sailer said. "He is primarily a punter but can also kick. We have ranked the #3 punter in the nation."

This is high praise indeed since Sailer is one of the premier private special team coaches in the nation.
Ballman did double duty for one of the nation's top junior college teams as a sophomore and led his league in scoring. He was 11-18 on field goals and hit 38-40 PAT's.
The Huskies like Ballman as a punter. He averaged 40.8 yards per punt with a long of 71 yards out of 31 attempts. Probably the most important stat is out of his 31 punt attempts is not one was blocked.
Ballman landed three punts inside the 20.
"I liked everything about Washington," Ballman said. "They recruited me as a punter, but I will be able to compete for the place-kicking job, too."
The Huskies win this recruiting battle over offers from North Carolina, Louisville, Rutgers, Memphis and Boise State.
Ballman will enter Washington in March and will be able to participate in spring ball. He has three years to play two.
