Huskies Keep One Home

The UConn football program made a statement with a big win over Iowa State and a 6-6 record this season. Now they're doing their best to keep their borders closed with their latest commitment.
"Matthew committed to UConn today," said Marvin Lawrence, the father of 6-foot-2, 190-pound running back Matthew Lawrence of Bloomfield, Conn. "He felt very comfortable there on his visit and felt that UConn was recruiting him harder than anyone. He cancelled his visits to South Carolina (Jan. 17) and Syracuse (Jan. 24) and is excited about next year at UConn."

Lawrence, who ran for more than 800 yards this season despite missing five games to an ankle injury, broke out as a junior with nearly 2,000 yards on the ground.
"UConn was on him from the start in his junior year," his father said. "The whole staff got involved with recruiting him and they said he was their No. 1 priority in state."
Lawrence, who can also play defensive back and is a standout track athlete, has lofty goals at UConn.
"They're going to a bowl game next year," his father said matter-of-factly. "Matthew wants to play for a team that will go to bowl games and win a national championship and that will happen at UConn."
