Huskies discover California gold

Shortly after helping Newhall (Calif.) Hart win the CIF Southern Section Division II championship athlete prospect Dan Howell (6-2, 210, 4.6) committed to the Washington Huskies. Howell had an outstanding senior season on both sides of the ball.
In 14 games, Howell rushed for 1,154 yards and scored 23 touchdowns. He also was a threat catching the ball latching on to 22 receptions for 237 yards and three touchdowns.

On defense, Howell was just as good. He racked up 50 tackles, three sacks, three picks and two fumble recoveries.
“Washington has shown me the most interest”, Howell said to Ruth Robbins of RealDawg.com. "When they offered me, I just decided I would take them up on it.”
Colorado State also offered Howell. Other schools that were showing Howell recruiting attention were Oregon, Fresno State, Nevada and Harvard.
UW always landed great but unheralded football players when they were competing for national championships and Pac10 crowns out of California. The Huskies did a nice job identifying talent that was flying underneath the recruiting radar machine of local schools.
Howell is that type of player that UW would land out of California during their glory years.
Nice get for the Huskies.
