Huskers take lead for Texas DT

The next junior day visit for Katy (Texas) Mayde Creek defensive tackle Jowyn Ward finally took him out of state.
The 6-foot-2, 265-pounder has already been to Texas Tech and Texas A&M. This weekend, Ward took in Nebraska for the first junior day of the year for the Big 12 North school. Though he's yet to receive an offer from any school yet, he's got a leader.

"It was pretty cool," Ward said about the visit. "The coaches showed me around a little and I got a chance to speak with coach Buddy Wyatt for a long period of time. He said he's going to come see me during spring ball.
"Nebraska is the favorite so far. I like the system they have over there and they treat the players well. Plus, they seem to have a good academic program for athletes and that's really important to me."
The coaching staff also impressed Ward.
"I just liked how considerate they were to all of the visitors," Ward said. "It seemed like they knew exactly what they wanted and how they wanted to do it with recruiting."
Ward says that despite having a leader, he's going to continue to look around and take more unofficial visits during the summer for camps.
Several other athletic events will keep him busy.
"I've got power lifting and a regional meet is coming up," Ward said. "I have to put all the junior days and stuff off because of that. Then I've got track too. So, I'm just going to hold off everything until summer."
LSU was one school that wanted him to come this weekend for a junior day, but Ward says he had already made his plans to head north. A decision isn't going to be for a while either.
"I'm going to keep my options open," Ward said. "I'm going to wait for a while to make a commitment."
Ward was a second-team all-district performer as a junior.
