Huskers lead for Brown

Flying under the radar this summer, three-star defensive end Lavar Brown has been out of the state in California visiting his father. Recruiting hasn't stopped though and he's got a new leader before the season starts.
The 6-foot-3, 240-pounder, originally from California, is ready for his senior season at Rosenberg (Texas) Lamar Consolidated and is also ready to get busy with his recruiting process. Brown's new leader has a lot to do with a family connection.

"Right now, Nebraska is my favorite," Brown said. "My cousin is Broderick Thomas who played there a while back and he's been having me talk to the coaches. I like how it sounds and how they work as a team. I also like my recruiting coach (John Blake)."
Brown says that he isn't counting out anybody else despite naming a favorite. Two other schools look very much in the mix.
"I'm going to Arizona for an official visit on Sept. 23 when they play USC," Brown said. "I just want to see how the team looks and what kind of school it is. I'm also trying to see if LSU will have me out for an official visit yet. They haven't offered yet, but they're talking to me. I'm also planning to get to Nebraska."
Brown doesn't have any timeframe on a decision. Right now his focus is on the season and football practice which started this week.
"We're looking pretty good so far," he said about the team. "It's just one practice, but we're ready to go."
