Hunko hearing from East Coast teams

Evan Hunko made a cross-country trek to Rutgers, Connecticut and Duke recently and the Lakewood (Calif.) Mayfair quarterback plans to head back to two of those schools this summer for camp. It's far away but could be worth it if offers come.
Hunko, a 6-foot-4, 186-pound pro-style quarterback, said he'll camp at Rutgers and Connecticut in June and he has special interest in the Scarlet Knights because he feels their offense fits him better. Getting to work out in front of coach Greg Schiano will be important.

"More of a Rutgers style would fit me and UConn has a lot of quarterbacks lined up so out of the two colleges I'm more interested in Rutgers but I wouldn't mind going to either one," Hunko said.
"Schiano was really motivated. He saw everything on the field. When he was on the other side of the field I saw him yelling at a kid on the opposite side so it shows he pays attention to every kid no matter which position he plays. I was talking to Tom Savage and he seems like a really cool guy to learn under. He could be my mentor. That would be fun."
When Hunko visited Connecticut he was blown away by the new facilities especially the weight room and the Huskies' indoor practice facility. Even though Rutgers has a slight edge at this point he will camp at Connecticut in hopes of an offer.
"We took a little tour and their weight room was just huge," Hunko said. "It was the biggest thing I've ever seen and we saw their indoor practice facility and it was really nice. I got to go up top and look from a bird's eye view and I mingled with their kids."
Hunko, who worked out at the Los Angeles Nike Camp last weekend, said he expects Duke coaches to come out to California later next month to watch him throw and if the interest level remains high he could return there for camp this summer. Air Force is also coming out and the Mayfair standout said UCLA has been in touch.
He attended the Bruins' spring game last weekend and spent most of his time with top defensive end Todd Barr. The two have been friends for years and both are interested in UCLA.
"There was a whole bunch of recruits there," Hunko said of the UCLA spring game. "I spent most of my time with Todd Barr because we go way back, we used to play Pop Warner together so we hung out. It was really exciting. It was just like a real game so it was real fun.
"They've been sending me a lot of mail and I have talked to Rick Neuheisel. I went to their camp last year and I was high on their list last year so they've been in a little bit of contact."
