Humble OL staying in-state with pledge

Even though SMU didn’t come out with a victory this weekend on the field, the Ponies did win a major recruiting battle off of it. That’s because they’ve landed an offensive lineman that is just outside of the Texas top 100, who had offers from a Big 12 program and a Big East school.
Meet the newest Pony, David Allison of Humble, Texas.

“I committed on Sunday,” said Allison, who is a two-star player and ranked as a 5.4 on the Rivals.com Rating scale. “I spent an hour and half talking with my step dad, my mom and my family. I didn’t want to go to a big school, and I didn’t want to be a number in a classroom. I wanted to get a great education, and I just got along so well with the coaches at SMU.
“SMU applies with everything I want in a school, so it was an easy decision for me.”
Allison said an unofficial visit this weekend for the Tech game helped win him over.
“We went through some tailgating and ate dinner with the coaches and the redshirt freshmen,” Allison, who is 6-foot-6 and 287 pounds, said. “SMU played pretty well in the game. We were kind of thinking that they might get beat worse, but I was pleased they didn’t. They really showed a lot of improvement, and I was pleased to see that.”
Allison also had offers from Colorado and Syracuse. He was also being recruited by Baylor, Oklahoma State, Houston and TCU. Allison plays for one of the top prep programs in Houston, and Humble is off to a 1-0 start on the season.
“We beat Elsik 34-13,” Allison said. “We have a big one this week. We have Katy on Saturday. They’re coming up here for a game at 7:30. It should be a big one.”
