Huge sleeper WR starting to get interest

Blue Ridge (Va.) Blue Ridge School is loaded with talent in 2008. The star of the class has to be 6-foot-6, 220-pound wide receiver Chris Smith who earned all-conference and all-state honors as a junior.
"He's just a phenomenal athlete," Blue Ridge School head coach Daryl Hayes said. "Everybody and their grandmother want to talk to him. He's got letters from just about every Division I school in the east."

It's no surprise considering Smith hauled in 30 receptions for 779 yards and 10 touchdowns last season.
"One of three scores we had last year came from Chris," he said. "We were throwing into triple coverage a lot and he still would come down with it. He just has tremendous hands and I think only had four drops all year.
"He is pretty new to football. He's only been playing since his freshman year, but as a player he's got a lot of room to grow. Every day at practice he gets more comfortable. He's the type of player that takes hits and will go across the middle."
Off the field, Hayes spoke highly of his talented wideout.
"Chris is a good kid that is a super hard worker and a good citizen," he said. "There's no worry about him getting into trouble and he's eager to learn the game. The only thing that is holding him back is that he's not football savvy, but he's got tremendous upside and is freakish."
Plenty of colleges are already taking an interest in the 2008 prospect.
"He's getting a lot of looks from the ACC including Virginia, Virginia Tech, Maryland and others," he said. "I believe Virginia is his number one choice, but he is looking at the other schools. Whoever gets him is going to be getting a player that is ready to get on the field right away."
