Huge season opener for UGA commit Zamir White

Georgia fans should be very excited about the future with five-star Zamir White. The Laurinburg (N.C.) Scotland star running back did everything he could to give his team the win over Charlotte (N.C.) Mallard Creek but they came up just seven points short.

“This offseason I worked on my speed, strength, and being a better leader,” White said.

That certainly seems to have paid off. White had over 300 total yards on less than 20 touches and scored three times. He hopes to bring the same level of productivity to Athens next year.

“I’ve been watching everything at Georgia,” he said. “I’m going there and will try my best to start. Swift looks like a great tailback. With Sony and Chubb there too, everybody is fighting for the spot.”

White is the highest rated commitment in Georgia’s 2018 recruiting class but White hasn’t been paying much attention to what the Dawgs are doing on the recruiting trail.

“I haven’t really been focusing on recruiting," said White. "I’ve been focusing on the season. I saw Azeez (Ojulari) committed. That’s huge to get him. I hope every good player picks Georgia. Go Dawgs!"

Scotland's schedule doesn't get much easier. Their next game is at Durham (N.C.) Hillside and will feature another talented running back on the other side, Oregon commit Jamal Currie-Elliott.

RIVALS’ REACTION…

It was an outstanding night for White even though his team couldn’t pull out the win. He showed the strength, toughness, vision, speed, and explosiveness we’ve become accustomed to seeing from the nation’s top rated running back. The most impressive aspect of White’s game on Thursday night was his emergence as a legitimate receiving threat. That’s always been a bit of a question mark with him but he really showed improvement with a 66-yard and a 36-yard catch and run for two of his three touchdowns. There aren’t many true workhorse running backs left in college football but White can certainly be the next one.
