Howell talks Minnesota, USF

Even though he hasn't been able to catch the eye of the coaches at Florida State, the school he grew up rooting for, Coral Gables (Fla.) running back Gregory Howell does have one BCS school showing strong interest.
"I get letters from the coaches at Minnesota all the time," Howell said Thursday at FSU's camp. "Once I get back from this trip I plan on calling them and seeing how everything is going."

The Gophers offered Howell last month and he said he hasn't had as much contact with the coaches as he would like because of the dead period.
"They send me letters, handwritten notes and they want me to keep in touch and everything like that," he said. "They want to build a bond with me and it's up to me to call them every once in a while and keep in touch."
Among the other schools showing strong interest in Howell is USF. The Bulls have yet to offer, but have told Hill they want to see him in person before pulling the trigger.
"I've talked to the coaches over there and they said I need to come and showcase my talent," he said. "I'm looking forward to that opportunity."
Howell said staying in Florida and closer to him is something that might be appealing to him.
"USF is close to the area I like," he said. "I have family there and it seems like a good spot for me if I could get an offer from them."
