Fresno (Calif.) Bullard offensive lineman Nick Howell has been rumored to be a 'silent' commit for USC since the Trojans summer camp. We caught up with the talented lineman to find out the latest on his recruitment.
Howell, 6-5, 255 pounds was one of the standouts at the Nike Camp at Stanford over the summer where he was generally regarded as one of the top three offensive linemen in attendance. He's tall and lean with very good feet and once he fills out in college, should become a fine player.
Howell not only excelled in the position drills, he also tested very well clocking a 5.16 in the 40, 4.50 in the shuttle, jumped 26 inches in the vertical and did 28 reps on the bench. Throw in the fact that the lineman shows up well on film and has great bloodlines (father is former USC All-American OL Pat Howell) and it's no wonder Howell is regarded as one of the elite linemen in the West this year.
"USC, Colorado State, Washington, Washington State and Cal all called this month," Howell said. "I have offers from USC, Washington and Cal and I think Colorado State is close to offering as well.
"USC is my top school right now followed by Washington, Arizona, Fresno State and Cal. I grew up in a Trojan household and I really like the direction the program is going. Still, I want to take my trips before I make my decision and I havne't committed anywhere yet. I haven't set any trip dates yet but I plan to do so later in the season."
