Howard leaning to NC State

Defensive tackle/offensive guard Carl Howard took an official visit to NC State over the weekend. What did the Matawan, N.J. lineman think?
"NC State is the team to beat right now," said Howard. "That's pretty clear to me now. I've visited Rutgers and Maryland, and they were nice schools, but NC State is really on top. I've got one visit left to Virginia Tech (Jan. 23) and that could be the deciding factor."

The 6-foot-4, 295-pound lineman runs the 40-yard dash in 4.9 seconds. What did he like about the visit?
"I was most impressed with the academics and the facilities. The weight training is top-notch, so it's no surprise their players are getting stronger and faster while they're there. And the coaches and players all make academics a top priority."
Did Howard think about committing on his visit?
"No, I had told myself beforehand that I wouldn't do that. If I had to choose today it would definitely be NC State, but I'm going to give Virginia Tech the same chance I gave them. I think that's only fair to them and fair to me."
