Jersey Village duo Desmon Marrs and Jacoby Reed strike fear in their opponents, but haven't drawn the offers some would think because of their academic status.
"Those two guys are so talented, but they need to get their grades in order," Jersey Village coach David Snokhous said. "If they had their grades set right now, they would have dozen offers each."
Reed (6-foot-1, 190 pounds) has been offered by Baylor and Arkansas, but he has the opportunity for more.
"Jacoby can play as a cover corner who can really hit," Snokhous said. "He blocked eight extra points last season. He has a knack for the football that you can't teach.
"Texas had some interest in him, but they don't have to wait on kids to get their academics in order," he said.
Marrs (6-3, 190-pounds) is one of Houston's top receivers in a deep 2007 class. His speed and athleticism equals Furr's Ervin Jefferson and Chavez's Justin Bell.
Unlike the others, he has yet to be offered.
"Desmond has a chance to be good," Snokhous said. "He runs great routes and has good hands. He's a Divsion I prospect."
The Falcons are famous for have a deep class of several Division I prospects. Outside of Reed and Marrs, Snokhous says that linebackers Travis Stevens (6-2, 225-pounds), Jacob Long (6-1, 205-pounds), defensive lineman Corey Wright (6-2, 255-pounds), and cornerback Nick Hightower (5-10, 175-pounds) all have a shot.
"Travis got in the weight room this offseason and has just exploded," he said. "He could get up to 245-pounds and maintain his speed.
"Corey is a stud who transferred from New Orleans. He's so green with a lot of upside. Nick is being looked at hard by Illinois."
