Houston ready to snag 2A star

The cream of Class 2A Texas high school football crop is attempting to make his college commitment, after coming to a final decision Monday afternoon before suiting up and hitting the field for fall practice.
"I want to commit to the University of Houston," Hitchcock, Texas, athlete Marquis Lowe said. "I'm telling my coach so he can get in touch with Houston assistant coach (Allen) Weddell."

Lowe is Mr. Everything at Hitchcock, where he rushed for over 2,000 yards and threw for another 1,000 yards. He also is a terrific cover corner and a punishing tackler.
"I've had coaches come up to me after the game and tell me that he is the fastest human they have ever seen," Hitchcock coach Gary Carney said. "They have all seen him on film, but you don't realize how fast he is until you see him in person. You can't take a normal angle on him – he just runs right by you.
"He plays quarterback for us in the shot gun, but basically we just snap it to him as a tailback. He may even be a better defensive back that a running back. He can cover and just punishes people. He's absolutely fearless," Carney said.
Lowe will join former teammate and recipient of many of his passes last season, T.J. Scranton, at Houston in 2006.
"T.J. being there had a lot to do with me committing there," he said. "I think I'll play in the slot in college, but wherever I can get on the field is fine."
Lowe could also flourish as a track athlete for the Cougars. He has reached the state meet in several individual and sprint relay events.
