Houston quarterback getting many looks

Houston (Texas) Christian may be a new school but it is home to a traditional pro-style quarterback that has all the tools to succeed on the next level.
Nathan Newman put up very solid numbers during his junior year while leading Christian to a 5-6 record in just their third year as a school. He has all the markings of a solid quarterback and has a bright future, and some schools have taken notice.

“Things are going pretty well right now,” said the 6-foot-3 inch quarterback. “I am still waiting on my first offer but I am still getting a ton of mail from many different schools.”
One way for a sleeper prospect to get his name out in the open is to attend camps, both scouting camps and school camps held on campus. This summer Newman was busy attending both the College Station and Baton Rouge NIKE camps as well as quite a few school camps.
“I went to, I think, six camps this summer to go with the NIKE camps,” he said. “I went to the Stanford camp, Tulane, (Texas) A&M, TCU, SMU and Kansas.”
Newman commented on his top schools as of right now and who may be recruiting him the hardest.
“Right now I would say that Notre Dame is sending me the most mail right now,” he commented. “They send quite a bit and about half of it is hand written. I get quite a bit from SMU as well.”
So does he think that any offers may be close?
“Well I am not sure, I pray that I will get a few,” he said. “Purdue told me that I had a good chance to get an offer if I could go to their camp but I couldn’t make it up there. Most of the schools say that they are waiting to see my first three games of the season. The only thing that I haven’t shown yet is my ability to lead my team to a championship. All of the seniors on my team have been playing together for four years now, since the school opened, and I think we are going to be a good team.”
Right now, Newman is focusing on his season and he and his teammates just started two-a-days in the Texas heat.
“My top schools right now would be, in no order, SMU, A&M, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Stanford, Baylor, Tulane and Harvard,” said Newman of his favorite schools. “I get anywhere from 5-20 pieces of mail a day. Right now my mind and focus is on our season. Recruiting will hopefully take care of itself.”
