Houston OL likes in-state options
Cypress (Texas) Cy-Fair offensive guard Chris Lathrop's growing frame is just one of many reasons why he's watching his early recruitment take off.

The 6-foot-5, 270-pounder has already received interest from the likes of Ole Miss, Virginia, Connecticut, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, and Duke. Lathrop says that after a few junior days, the in-state schools appear to be high on his list.
"I grew up an Aggie," Lathrop said. "But, I went to Texas Tech and I really liked what they showed me too. I went to Tech's junior day this past weekend and spoke with their new offensive line coach. He said that he was waiting to offer a lot of guys since he was new. The coaches were all young guys and they seemed like they knew how to relate."
Lathrop says that the next junior day visit will be this weekend to Northwestern.
"They text me everyday," Lathrop said. "I'm supposed to call them this week before I go up there."
Lathrop, with his solid frame, says he's being recruited primarily as a guard.
"I'm fast, I can pull well, and coach used to have me at tackle, but having Sam McGuffie, they need fast linemen who can pull all the time," Lathrop said. "I get to the linebackers quick."
The Houston lineman has a good idea of who may be close to pulling the trigger on that first offer.
"I think Tech is close," he said. "I'm not positive about Northwestern. They asked to see my SAT score and I told him what it was and they said that it seemed fine."
