John Houston is one of the first five-star prospects in the 2015 class. He's having a tremendous junior season and his coach says he could be one of the special ones.
Gardena (Calif.) Serra coach Scott Altenberg knows a extraordinary prospect when he sees one - he's coached Robert Woods, Marqise Lee and now Adoree' Jackson and he said Houston is in that same class of special player who could make a difference for a long time.
"John's upside is just unbelievable," Altenberg said. "He's so coachable. He takes to coaching so well and then the next play he does it."
Houston is one of many top prospects at Serra, which is still undefeated this season with the playoffs starting this weekend.
Because of his talents and because so many coaches have been out to see others, Houston's offer list is already through the roof.
So far, the 2015 linebacker has received offers from Cal, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Miami, Ole Miss, Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon State, UCLA, USC, Utah, Washington and Washington State.
Many others are showing early interest and his recruitment could get really interested because Altenberg is not convinced he's going to stay close to home. According to his coach, Houston could look everywhere for the best fit and staying in the Pac-12 is not a certainty.
"I think he's going to be one of those guys, he's going to go out and feel things out," Altenberg said. "He's a really smart kid and I think the process is going to be important to him."
