Missouri City (Texas) Fort Bend Marshall cornerback John Gibson has been a standout on varsity ever since his freshman year at nearby Houston Sharpstown. Now that the 5-foot-10, 172-pound defender is headed into his senior year, things are starting to pick up on the recruiting front.
Gibson has already picked up a pair of offers from out of state.
"I have two offers," Gibson said. "Indiana and San Diego State have both offered me. They came a little while back. I hadn't really talked to San Diego State so I was sort of surprised when that one came.
"I've been talking to Indiana a lot. They're trying to get me up there for a visit. I've been talking to coach (Brett) Diersen from up there."
Gibson has been in contact with quite a few other programs as well.
"I've been talking to Texas A&M and Texas Tech," he said. "Colorado came by. I've talked to LSU a couple of times. Texas Tech might be close to offering me too. They said they had to see me in spring ball. He's going to be back next week. Texas A&M told me they had to see me in camp."
Other coaches wishing to see Gibson work out this summer have to wait a few days.
"I haven't really been going through spring ball yet," he said. "We qualified for the state track meet this weekend in the 4x200 (meter relay). I'll start going through spring practice on Monday."
As for early favorites, Gibson says he would prefer to stay relatively close to Houston.
"I like Texas A&M, Baylor and TCU," he said. "Those are top Texas schools. I don't have to but I'd like to stay sort of close to home if I can."
