Horry looking forward to big future with Texas A&M

With Camron Horry, one thing is certain: He is committed to Texas A&M as a tight end.

After that, things are going to have to do a little shaking out. As a blocking tight end that catches the occasional pass in his high school offense, he’s got the athleticism to be an effective receiver, with size that most coaches would love their offensive tackles to have. In all likelihood, he’ll be asked to flip those priorities once he gets to A&M in a more pass-oriented offense.

That’s fine with him and the Aggies coaches have told him they’re committed to helping him be a top player in that role.

“Coach (Jeff) Banks talks to me all the time about things he thinks I will excel at,” he said. “The one reason he really recruited me is that I excel at blocking and catching, but he thinks I can improve my catching even more to be a perfect tight end. He thinks I could be a mix between Rob Gronkowski and Antonio Gates.”

Despite the presumed emphasis on becoming a more potent receiver for A&M, Horry is working this season get stronger both physically and with his blocking technique.

“I feel like my big thing to work on is my strength,” he said. “You’ll be going against these really really athletic kids that are getting recruited, and they’re all strong, fast, quick, so I am gearing up to be able to block like a super-athletic outside linebacker.”

IN HIS WORDS

On his overall relationship with Texas A&M

“It’s going great over there, talking with all the coaches but mainly Coach Banks,” he said. “He’s basically my best friend; we’re always texting and it’s just a great relationship over there.”

On what he was expecting while in attendance on Saturday’s win over UCLA

“That’s going to be my second game over there and I’m just expecting it to be super-fun,” he said. “The atmosphere is incredible. There is no way you can really speak about it, you have to experience it in person. It’s just crazy.”

RIVALS REACTION

Horry seems very content with his commitment and brought 2018 Rivals100 teammate Max Wright with him to Saturday’s game. He says that he is still being recruited by his friends as well to another SEC school but insists that he’s still solid to the Aggies.

Ryder Anderson, that’s one of my boys,” he said. “He’s really trying to get me to go to Arkansas, and I got a couple other friends from my school that went to Arkansas that are like ‘hey, get up here.’”

As long as he believes what he’s being told about Texas A&M’s future plans for him and he thinks he can contribute to the offense in the way that he envisions, Horry doesn’t figure to be on flip-watch. He talks glowingly about the staff and gameday experience at Kyle Field and seems to genuinely want to be a part of it going forward.
