Hoops and football for Buckner

Bossier City (La.) Bossier defensive end Charles Buckner is both a Division I-A football prospect and a Division I-A basketball prospect. Rather than choose which sport he wants to play at the next level, the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder has decided that he's going to attempt to play both.
"I am really looking at going to college for both of them," he said. "I think I can go to the league in both. I think I can go in football. I'm just trying to make it."

Buckner projects as a defensive end (perhaps a wide out or tight end) in football and a three in hoops.
He has spoken to coaches from both sports recently.
"Recruiting is going good," Buckner said. "I'm talking to coaches. I'm talking to Texas-San Antonio (basketball only), Northern Illinois, Idaho, they are real interested. All of those schools are very interested."
Idaho is the most recent school to get in the picture. The Vandals want Buckner to play both sports.
One Big 12 program has been involved.
"I'm still looking at Texas A&M for both," he said. "They are waiting on me to take my SAT. I had talked to one of their guys.
"I was looking at Mississippi State for football. Not too long ago they were writing a lot."
Buckner, who plays running back for his high school team and says there's a chance he may play wide receiver in college, has started preseason football practice with his high school.
"We've started," he said. "We've got football practice tomorrow from 2-6."
The three-star rated Buckner is the No. 21 overall prospect in the Rivals.com Louisiana Top 40.
