Holmes waiting for first offer

DAVIE, Fla. - The fastest 40-yard dash time turned in at Sunday's Under Armour Combine came from Loxahatchee (Fla.) Seminole Ridge running back Gary Holmes, who was clocked at 4.39 seconds. The 5-foot-7, 160-pound running back said he is glad that he attended the Combine on top of participating with his South Florida Blur 7-on-7 squad at this time.
"I am really enjoying it," Holmes said. "It has been a lot of fun. I am learning a lot of stuff at the 7-on-7 and I love competing at the combine."

At this point, Holmes is hearing from a number of schools but hasn't officially been offered by any of them.
"FAU is showing me a lot of interest," Holmes said. "Also Wisconsin, Notre Dame, LSU, Florida, Miami, Florida, and Georgia Tech. A lot of schools. Nobody has verbally offered me yet."
He is optimistic that first offer will come in the near future, and he is looking forward to that moment.
"I am looking forward to getting that first one," Holmes said. "It will mean a lot to me and to my parents. We have done a lot to get to this point."
Holmes took a Junior Day visit to Florida Atlantic in late January and plans to see Central Florida during March and Florida in April. He talked about his time on campus at Florida Atlantic.
"I learned that they run a pro-style offense, I liked that," Holmes said. "I like their running scheme down there. I didn't know the campus was that big. They are getting a new stadium down there, so that is obviously big. There is a lot of stuff to look forward to there."
One in-state school he would really like to hear from is the Seminoles.
"I grew up liking Florida State," Holmes said. "I haven't talked to them really seriously. They have sent a couple of letters."
During the summer, Holmes would like to visit Wisconsin, Notre Dame, and Southern Cal.
As a junior, Holmes rushed for 1,445 yards and 17 touchdowns. Defensively, he played cornerback.
