Holmes surprised by early offer

Darick Holmes knew UCLA was interested in him but the 2015 athlete from Pasadena (Calif.) Muir said he was shocked when the Bruins recently offered.
"They've been watching me since freshman year because they were watching Kevon (Seymour) and then I finally put my film out and they saw my film," Holmes said. "That's when the coach called me and they offered me.

"It was a surprise. I thought it was going to be next year. I was really happy though but I have to keep on working hard."
Holmes, one of the more impressive prospects at the Pierce College 7on7 tournament last weekend, said there is definitely interest in UCLA but since his recruitment is just starting he also wants to take his time.
The Pasadena Muir prospect has already taken an unofficial visit to UCLA and was impressed but doesn't want to rush a decision. Before making his commitment, Holmes wants to figure out which other programs might offer.
"I think they're on the rise right now," Holmes said. "They have a lot of good players coming in and that's going to be important. The staff is really good. I've been to one of their practices and it was nice.
"I just want to take my time and be patient. I really don't want to rush anything because it's so early."
Other than his early offer from UCLA, Holmes said he has gotten preliminary recruiting mail from Alabama, Florida State, LSU and Idaho.
