Offers continue to pile up for Norfolk (Va.) Lake Taylor 2014 defensive end Jalyn Holmes. The latest offers come from the Pac-12 and SEC.
"My newest offer is from Southern Cal about two weeks ago," he said. "Before that, I got an offer from Tennessee."
The scholarship from the Trojans came as a shock to the 6-foot-5, 225-pounder.
"It's big," he said. "I really had to ask my coach again if I got offered. I don't really have words to explain it.
"USC is a big program and they send players to the NFL. It's also in L.A. The only thing is, it's kind of far, but distance isn't really a factor."
Holmes is up to 14 scholarships now, however he hasn't visited many schools this season.
"I can't really visit schools, we play on Saturdays," he said. "I can't visit schools until the playoffs start with our schedule.
"I was supposed to go to the Virginia-Maryland game, but I had to change it. I'm going to the Virginia-Virginia Tech game at the end of the year. I don't know what else I'm going to."
With offers starting to stockpile, is there an offer Holmes still wants?
"Not really," he said. "I would want, Florida State to offer me, but if they don't that's cool with me."
Holmes does have some sort of plan though.
"I know I will be doing my top five at the beginning of next summer," he said. "That will be my five finalists and then I'll take all five visits and announce my decision at the Army game. I got an invite there."
On the field, Holmes is impressing, as he has helped his team to an 8-0 record.
"Everything is going a little crazy since the last game," he said. "It was essentially the Eastern District Championship and I caught the game winning touchdown with five seconds to go. It's nice to make the play, but I've got to keep making plays like that."
Holmes has posted five touchdowns and 11 sacks on the year.
