Hokies land in-state target

The Virginia Tech Hokies received a commitment today from one of the top players on their home state's best high school team.
"I actually committed to Tech last week, but it's just getting out there now," said 6-foot-0, 170-pound athlete D.J. Parker from Hampton (Va.) Phoebus. "I've liked Tech for the longest time and I feel I fit in well there. They offered me over the Holidays so I decided to think about it a bit and then commit."

Parker will be a cornerback at Tech but he can also play wide receiver. He won't qualify academically so he'll head to Fork Union Military Academy for at least one semester.
"We just need to get all that finalized," he said. "It should be done soon. I'm also still taking my official visit to Tech on Jan. 24 with Xavier."
Xavier is Phoebus linebacker Xavier Adibi, one of the top players in the state and considered a Hokie lean. His brother, Nathanael, is a defensive lineman for Tech.
"I'm working on Xa really good," he laughed. "In fact, we talked today. He's still going to take his visits, but I'm working on him to become a Hokie as well."
