Hokies Have Work Left With Commitment

The Virginia Tech Hokies have out dueled Florida State and others for their latest commitment, but they’ll need to work hard to keep him.
“I’m committed to Virginia Tech, but I’m going to take some official visits to make sure,” said Miami (Fla.) Central quarterback Courntey Denson who committed to the Hokies last week over offers from Florida State, Auburn, NC State and others. “I chose Tech because I really started watching and following quarterbacks when I was watching Michael Vick. I loved the way he played and the way the Virginia Tech offense allows you do anything.”

Denson, despite his commitment to Virginia Tech, is still open to the recruiting process and admitted he grew up a big Florida State fan.
“They offered me as an athlete and I prefer to play quarterback, but it’s not a huge deal,” said the 6-foot-1, 185-pounder. “I just want to go where I feel the most wanted and most comfortable. I still like FSU, Florida and Miami and I’ll also look at NC State and Rutgers a bit. I’ll make my final decision after I see some places. I won’t take any official visits until after my senior season is over.”
For now the Hokies can count Denson as a soft commitment and they’ll continue to recruit him. The talented signal-caller said he’s not thrilled by the prospect of competing with Marcus Vick at Tech, but he’s also not afraid of it.
“At first I thought they were recruiting Vick as an athlete, but then I found out he’ll be a quarterback,” he said. “It bothers me a little bit, but I’m not afraid of competition. I look forward to it.”
