Hokies first to offer VA safety

Every young football player dreams of going on to play at a major college program after high school. When they receive that first offer, it is like a dream come true. That's how Shawn Payne felt when he received his first offer from Virginia Tech.
"When I was little I always wanted to play for so that school I've been shooting for but I don't know whole lot about them yet though," said the 6-foot-3, 180-pound Payne. "Coach Torrian Grey, the defense of back coach offered me. Virginia Tech is the only school I've been in contact with and I have an offer from them.

The safety from Chesterfield (Va.) Lloyd C. Bird has one school in mind that he would love to receive an offer from.
"I'm really hoping to get an offer from Oregon because their team is unbelievable," said Payne. "I really like how quick they play and their jerseys also. I haven't really had a lot contact with the coaches there but I really like the way they play."
This coming offseason, Payne is planning on making his rounds on the camp circuit after not getting much exposure last year.
"Over the summer I went to combine it my high school and then also went to one other camp."
In his junior season, Payne had over 180 yards receiving with four touchdowns and three interceptions on defense.
