Hitman LB gets offers

One of the most underrated players in the Southern California area is two-star middle linebacker Greg Newman (6-4, 240, 4.7) from Westlake, Calif. Though Newman may not be getting talked about as much as his more publicized teammates, he has been the topic of conversation among D-I coaches.
“(Westlake head coach) Coach (Jim) Benkert told me I have about eight offers,” Newman said. “To be honest I’m not sure of who they all are.”

“I’ve already visited Colorado,” Newman said. “I will be visiting Washington on November 21st.”
“I may also set up visits to Arizona State and Colorado State,” Newman said. “Colorado State is one of the teams I know have offered.”
“I am really interested in UCLA,” Newman said. “I also like Colorado a lot.”
“I would like to stay in Southern California,” Newman said. “If that isn’t possible then I will go wherever I would feel most comfortable.”
Rivals.com saw Newman up real close when they hooked up against a very tough Newhall (Calif.) Hart team.
That evening Newman proved that he is a very intense player who loves to mix it up. He hustled the whole game through and he played hard whistle-to-whistle.
Newman is a lethal hitter who has knocked off a few helmets off this season.
Newman has that nasty attitude you love to see in a linebacker. He has great vision and is able to find the football. Once he finds the ball carrier he blows the play up. He approaches the game with a blue collar attitude.
Westlake is one of the best teams in the Southern Section CIF regardless of division and our one of the favorites to take the Division IV championship.
