Hines at two offers

Miami (Fla.) Belen Jesuit Prep safety Xavier Hines picked up his second offer on Tuesday when an in-state school made contact.
"I just got offered yesterday by FIU," Hines said. "I have one from Buffalo also."

Hines has been in regular contact with the Golden Panthers for a while now. He talked about what he is hearing from one of the assistants on Mario Cristobal's staff.
"I have mostly been talking to Coach (Frank) Ponce," Hines said. "He just says they are real interested in me and they like what they see from watching my games. He wants me to take a visit of the school as soon as possible during the time of their spring practice."
The 6-foot, 175-pound defensive back has been on campus at Florida International in the past and likes quite a few things about the local school.
"I haven't toured the whole entire school, but I have been to most of the parts and what I have seen, I like what they have done and their facilities," Hines said. "What I like about the school is that I know a lot of people that go there. A lot of kids from my school go there. It is also a nice opportunity to stay close to home, where I am able to go back and forth to see my family."
As for his other offer, Hines is not very familiar with the program at Buffalo.
"I don't know that much on them," Hines said. "I will try to take a visit there when I am able to."
While he holds just two offers, numerous schools are showing him attention at this time and evaluating him further.
"I am getting interest from Miami, Wisconsin, Rutgers, South Florida, and Central Florida. Also Boston College some, as well as Western Kentucky, Iowa State, and Illinois State," Hines said. "I am supposed to visit South Florida in March."
At the collegiate level, Hines has the flexibility to play a number of different spots in the secondary.
"I am able to play both, but depending on the depth chart of a particular school if they have too many cornerbacks, then I would play safety, or the other way around," Hines said. "I am willing to play both."
As a junior, Hines plays both cornerback and safety. He recorded six interceptions on the season.
