Hills brings versatile game to All-American Bowl

One thing is certain, Palmetto (Fla.) High standout Joseph Hills can fill a
lot of needs for a football team.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder has played six different positions during his
high school career, and could potentially play any of the six at the
college level. His versatility, along with his knack for making big plays
in the passing game and uncanny athleticism, were the key factors in the
Sunshine State star receiving an invitation to the inaugural
Offense-Defense All-American Bowl.
"It means a lot," Hills said. "As a junior, all I ever wanted to do was
play college ball. All the other stuff, I didn't know that I was good
enough."
Kickoff is set for 5 p.m. Jan. 4 at Lockhart Stadium in Fort Lauderdale,
Fla. The game will be televised live on ESPNU.
Hills, who has 10 touchdown receptions on offense and four interceptions on
defense, will play tight end and wide receiver in the all-star game.
"I am a standout player at whatever I do," Hills said. "This year, all I've
been playing is wide receiver and I play a little bit of safety," he said.
The colleges recruiting him have different ideas about where to use his
talents.
"Some of them want me for different things," Hills said. "Georgia wants me
to come play defense. South Carolina and LSU want me to play wide receiver.
"I want to play wideout."
Hills boasts a 38-inch vertical leap and believes that helps him gain an
advantage in the passing game.
"Most of the defensive backs are short and I'm kind of bigger than all of
them," he said. "Most defensive backs are the more athletic guys on the
field, but how can you guard something that big.
"I'm also pretty athletic."
The Bulldogs, Tigers and Gamecocks remain the teams to beat for Hills'
services. He has made an official visit to Baton Rouge, La., and will head
to Columbia, S.C., the weekend of Nov. 17 - followed by a trip to Athens,
Ga., the weekend of Nov. 24.
