Herron To Visit OSU

We had heard Sacramento (Calif.) Natomas defensive back Lamar Herron was going to visit to Oregon State this weekend but that visit has now been pushed back one week. Why is the USC commit taking visits at all right now?
Herron, 6-0, 190 pounds, was one of the first players to commit to the Trojans this year announcing way back in July shortly after attending USC’ four day camp. Herron worked out with the running backs at the camp but could be a number of positions in college including safety, which is where we project him.

During the CaliFlorida Bowl practices, Herron looked very good in the secondary showing plus size, speed and hitting ability. He has tremendous athleticism and the kind of frame that will easily carry more weight in college. With the Trojans doing so well on the field and off of it, why is Herron looking around?
“I want to play as a true freshman and I’m not sure I’ll be able to at USC,” Herron said. “Oregon State told me they lose some safeties and said there’s a good chance I could start right away next year. I’m going to visit there next weekend and see what it’s like. Right now, Oregon State is the only trip I have set up but hopefully a few other schools take a look at me and want to trip me in.
“I still consider myself a USC commit and would say there’s at least an 80% chance I’ll sign with them but I just want to make sure I check out all my options. When I committed to USC, I did so without really seeing any other colleges. I didn’t do a lot of research before I decided. Both of their safeties are coming back and they have a JC guy coming in as well. I’m not afraid to compete, there’s going to be good players no matter where I go but at the same time, it would be great to come in and play right away because I’ve never sat and watched one time in my football career.”
